The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A standout estate in the Northern Rhône Valley, Domaine de Bonserine produces some of the most captivating wines in the region. With a remarkable heritage of old vines, exceptionally refined ageing, and a precise understanding of ripeness, their cuvées offer a rare harmony—combining intensity with elegance in the most nuanced way.

In Côte-Rôtie, Bonserine draws from the appellation’s most legendary sites—Côte Blonde, Côte Brune, Moutonne, and Sarrasine. These steep, historic slopes around Ampuis are home to old Serine vines, a local strain of Syrah known for its aromatic complexity and structure. On the white wine side, the estate maintains its reputation in Condrieu, consistently capturing the essence of Viognier with clarity, precision, and a beautifully natural expression.
Wine Driven by a beautifully ripe vintage, the 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Sarrasine Red opens with delicate violet aromas layered over subtle, spicy oak—enhancing rather than masking the vibrant freshness of the fruit. The palate is impeccably built, generous and fleshy, with impressive volume and firm, framing tannins. Still youthful and structured, this is a superbly crafted wine with serious ageing potential—easily 10 years or more. Scored 94/100 by Olivier Poussier, Best Sommelier in the World.
Vinification Hand harvested. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats using indigenous yeasts, followed by a 3-week maceration with pumping over and punching of the cap. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 24 months in French oak demi-muids, 60% of which are new, 20% of which are 1 wine, 20% of which are 2 wines.
