Our committee's review
Ah, Côte-Rôtie! What wine lover hasn’t dreamed of tasting it at least once in their life? To be honest, it’s one of our favorite appellations…
Côte-Rôtie is among the oldest vineyards in France, with roots stretching back over 25 centuries to when the Greeks introduced vine-growing and winemaking to the Rhône. However, it wasn’t until 1940 that the appellation was officially recognized, revitalizing Ampuis’ wine market.
Today, Côte-Rôtie covers 330 hectares, with the noble Syrah grape flourishing on the steep hillsides of three Northern Rhône communes: Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupins-et-Semons.
What truly defines Côte-Rôtie, however, is its diverse terroirs and lieux-dits. Even neighboring plots can yield wines with distinct characters. Some of the most renowned parcels include Côte Brune, Côte Blonde, La Landonne, La Turque, La Mouline, Côte Rozier, Les Rochins, Le Mollard, and Lancement.
We’ve selected three essential estates that are celebrated by enthusiasts for capturing the classic essence of Côte-Rôtie. Never overly rich or heavily oaked, these wines share an incredible purity from the Syrah and the unique granite, mica-schist, and gneiss soils—a truly world-class expression of elegance.
(Re)discover the legendary Côte-Rôtie appellation and indulge in its deep, silky-textured wines with velvety tannins.
