AWARDS

Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2011 : 16/20

Wine:

The "Prestige" wine of Château Lacapelle-Cabanac spotlights the revival of the Malbec grape variety. Known for its rusticity, some inspired winemakers, including Thierry Simon and Philippe Vérax, have been able to bring out all the variety's magnificent black fruit aromas. The texture retains density and fullness. A well crafted wine that outdoes its appellation.

Vinification:

Organic viticulture, traditional vinification in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, rack and return, regular pumping over, micro oxygenation, vatting periods of around 20 days, aging on the fine lees in French oak casks for 16 months, stirred up each month.

Color:

Dark black colour with vivid red highlights.

Nose:

Complex and seductive on the nose, aromas of black fruit, prunes and cherries in eau de vie. A slight, discrete oakiness can be detected.

Palate:

Supple on entry, nice smoothness mid palate, well balanced with lovely sweetness. We detect the same aromas as those found on the nose. This wine has great finesse and lovely length.

Temperature:

Serve between 16 and 18°C. Decant 30 mins before drinking.

Food and wine pairing:

Grilled entrecôte steak, rich wild boar stew, haunch of venison, duck breast.

Cellar aging:

Enjoy up to and including 2015

In 2001, Thierry Simon and Philippe Vérax took the gamble of setting up in Château de Lacapelle-Cabanac. The 2005 vintages marks the release of their first organically-farmed certified vintage. Since then critics have been applauding the work of an estate that lives and makes its wine based on respect for quality and the environment.
