AWARDS

Robert Parker: 97/100

Wine:

Rated 97/100 by Parker, the 2021 red Bierzo Ultreia Valtuille is a wine of absolute elegance. The use of large wooden containers - for the first time, vats have been introduced, including a new one - allows the fruit to express itself freely, with the tannins perfectly capturing the finesse of these sandy and limestone soils. This vintage is slightly denser and a bit more influenced by its aging than usual, but oh, what grace and delicacy! Truly a masterpiece.

Vinification:

Harvested by hand. Maceration and ageing for 12 to 15 months in casks. No fining or filtration. Bottled on the estate.

Color:

Bright crimson red, with some violet highlights.

Nose:

Fresh and expressive, with complex, almost jammy red and black fruit aromas, revealing spicy, liquorice and leather notes.

Palate:

A beautiful freshness unfolds from the first taste, and this complexity is reflected in this perfectly balanced cuvée, with delicately coated tannins and a persistent, breathtaking finish.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Thick-cut beef ribs, duck breast with candied figs, sautéed veal with black olives, roast free-range poultry.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2035

A free spirit and a rebel, Raul Perez stands as a beacon for the new generation of Spanish winemakers. He doesn't follow the crowd, perhaps precisely because he aims to outshine them all. Indeed, he has chosen to let nature lead, retaining only its best offerings based on each vintage.

A true mentor, he also excels with his own vines. Close to his residence, in the village of Valtuille de Abajo in the Bierzo province, Raul Perez has curated a collection of wines sourced from ancient vineyards.
