AWARDS

According to many devoted enthusiasts, it remains the world’s finest liqueur. Its singular ability to evolve and gain complexity in the bottle makes it truly timeless.

The MOF Special Cuvée was created by the Carthusian monks in close collaboration with the Best Craftsmen of France (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France) sommeliers. Crafted from a base of Yellow Chartreuse, it offers a refined, fresh profile with a more pronounced touch of licorice and fennel, lifted by delicate citrus notes that deliver a lasting sensation of freshness. The aromatic complexity is remarkable, revealing layers of anise, saffron, and lemon balm. Each sip evolves on the palate, offering new nuances with every taste. The aromatic range is striking, with exceptional depth and precision. The texture is ultra-silky, while the palate is vibrant, intricate, and remarkably persistent. This is a true "meditation liqueur" — one to be savored slowly, on its own, at a serving temperature of 5-6°C. Bottled for the first time in 2008, it remains a singular creation with a perfectly balanced and enduring alcohol level of 45%.

Elaboration:

A liqueur made by macerating plants and roots in wine alcohol, distilled and then aged for at least five years in oak casks.
The recipe and the details of how it is made have remained secret since 1605, the year the recipe was handed over to the Carthusian monks. Only three monks age the secret recipe and have access to the precious document. The blend has been validated by the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommeliers, and the year of bottling is shown on the back of the bottle.

Color:

Intense yellow with fluorescent green highlights.

Nose:

The nose is captivating and complex, revealing layers of spices, licorice, fennel, and hyssop, intertwined with notes of citrus, anise, saffron, and lemon balm.

Palate:

The palate is vibrant and powerfully textured, with unparalleled length that echoes the fresh, alluring bouquet unveiled on the nose.

Temperature:

Serve chilled to 5-6°C or with an ice cube if required.

Food and wine pairing:

A digestif that lives up to its name, a Chartreuse dessert: hot soufflé with Chartreuse Verte, crêpes soufflé with Chartreuse Verte, parfait glacé with pistachio.

Chartreuse is a one-of-a-kind liqueur — often imitated but never matched. Its recipe has been a closely guarded secret since 1605, when the manuscript was entrusted to the Carthusian monks. Known as the "Elixir of Long Life" and praised for its medicinal properties, Chartreuse is crafted through the maceration and distillation of 130 different plants, barks, and spices. Since 1840, when the monks of the Voiron monastery in Isère first began distilling it, every sip has offered a depth of complexity that remains unrivaled.

The liqueur comes in two distinct expressions: Yellow Chartreuse, softer and lower in alcohol, and Green Chartreuse, with a more intense herbal character and higher strength. Over the years, the monks have expanded the range with special cuvées, each shaped by unique aging times, maceration periods, and final alcohol levels. These are not just spirits — they are liquid works of art, capable of maturing gracefully for decades in the bottle.

Renowned for their digestive properties and complex flavors, Chartreuse liqueurs have achieved global renown. Yet, despite the surging demand, the Aiguenoire distillery maintains its commitment to limited production, preserving the rarity and prestige of this legendary liqueur.
